In the decades that we have guided trips to Machu Picchu, the one thing we have repeatedly heard from clients is that the experience was everything they had hoped for, and more. One of the few places that lives up to – and even exceeds – expectations.
A Brief History
Built in the late 1400’s and early 1500’s by the Incan emperor Pachacutec, Machu Picchu is one of the world’s most magnificent example of architecture. Sitting high atop a mountaintop in the heart of the Peruvian Andes, it features commanding views in all directions and the finest examples of Incan stoneworking prowess in all of south America.

Although there are many theories as to it’s exact purpose and function, the most likely scenario in our opinion is that it was a type of royal country estate built for the pleasure and use of the elite Inca royalty, as an escape from the cold climate of Cusco.
