This trek is the ideal excursion for those who want to see some incredible Inca sites off the beaten path.
The beginning of the trek is less than a 40-minute drive from Ollantaytambo. Before we get there, we will stop by some Inca sites along the way, including Naupa Iglesia, one of our favorite Incan archaeological sites in Peru. This site may have been one of the most important in the Sacred Valley to the Incas and has some of the finest quality stonework we have seen anywhere.
Once we reach the community of Soccma, we will walk along a trail for around 2km (1.2 mi) through the terraced countryside. The hike is uphill, gradually climbing to the Pumamarca ruins. The ruins include ceremonial buildings, storage houses, and enclosures. It is one of the few places where the Spanish suffered a defeat against the Incas. From the ruins, you will descend along a different path for approximately 4km (2.5 mi). You will follow ancient aqueducts towards the terraces of Conchapata, where you will have a picnic lunch. Your vehicle will be waiting for you when you finish the hike.
